Welcome to Bill Acord's Rail Picture Gallery!
From the vast photo collection of Bill Acord--shot from various locations across the country over the last 30+ years. I recently retired after more than 40 years of working, and now am finally able to devote myself full-time to my lifelong hobby of railroad photography. I am a native Oklahoman, born and raised in Muskogee, thus making me a true "Okie From Muskogee." Here you will see numerous photos of Amtrak trains, such as the Heartland Flyer, the Pennsylvanian, the Three Rivers, The Broadway Limited, the Southwest Chief, and many others, as well as numerous photos of Union Pacific and BNSF locomotives. I am also a dedicated fan of vintage steam locomotives. I will travel thousands of miles at the "drop of a hat" to chase down vintage steam!!!
As you can see from my photos, I am an avid fan of Amtrak, especially the Heartland Flyer and the Ann Rutledge. I worked for years, lobbying the Oklahoma legislature, to restore rail passenger service to Oklahoma. We finally achieved that goal on June 15, 1999, when the Heartland Flyer made its inaugural run from Ft. Worth, Texas to Oklahoma City. I am sure all of you folks will consider me as a fanatic of the Flyer and the Ann Rutledge(renamed the "Missouri River Runner" in February 2009), as I have literally "bashed" them to death, and will continue to do so until I go to my grave!!! LOL I love the GE P42DC locomotives, even though they all do look much alike.
I currently live in St. Louis, MO, after moving here back in April 2006 after my retirement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Oklahoma City. Here, I married my long-time sweetheart, Kathy King, who is also a dedicated railfan. She loves to spend long hours with me, trackside. I am finding St. Louis to be a true mecca for railfanning. I will be more than delighted to share new pics as I embark on new adventures. More pics will be added every day. Enjoy!!
